A casual Cantonese eatery tucked at the basement of the new I12 Katong mall that’s popular with families and office crowds in the estate. The latest dining concept from home-grown restaurateur Paradise Group, Canton Paradise offers Hong Kong classics like roast meats, dim sum, nourishing soups and congee, alongside a selection of Shunde specialities. A second outlet is due to open this month at Jurong’s JCUBE mall.

Must-Tries: The barbecued belly pork with honey sauce — tender and beautifully glazed with a sticky honey sauce reduction — is tops. The steamed kampong chicken in Canton style (a Shunde speciality) is silky and ultra tender. From the dim sum menu, the bolo-style baked barbecue honey pork bun, and cheong fun with preserved turnip — a clever twist on chwee kueh, are must-haves. Those with an appetite for spice will enjoy the Sichuan-style poached sea bass with pickled cabbage in fish stock. The velvety fish slices bathed in a fiery, piquant stock makes for addictive eating with steamed rice. For dessert, have the molten custard glutinous rice ball with grated oats.
