Chasing big dreams in big cities, how do rural youths in Indonesia cope with the new life in their tiny rented rooms ('kost') in metropolitan Jakarta?

Traditional Papuan movement, hip hop and contemporary dance blend to offer a witty insight into their adventures and misadventures, created by rising Indonesian Papuan choreographic star, Jecko Siompo.

Fig 3: Terima KostJecko Siompo is one of Indonesia’s leading contemporary dancers and choreographers. He has participated in international dance fora within and outside Indonesia including Asia, Europe and the US. Since his student days at the Jakarta Art Institute (IKJ), Jecko has created some notable choreographies including Goda, Ini Budi, Irian Zoom In, Asmat Dani, Obahorok, Buto Huruf, Unanuk, Tikus-Tikus, Di Kamar Kost and In Front Of Papua. In 2007 Jecko participated in the Asia Contemporary Dance Festival in Osaka and the Asian Dance Conference in Tokyo.

Important Notice: For the enjoyment of all audience members, all events start promptly at the time printed on the ticket. Please be seated 15 minutes before the performance start-time. Entry for latecomers and re-admission will not be permitted until the first appropriate pause in the programme or intermission, if any.

Patrons are advised that with effect from 12 March 2004, an administrative fee of $5 per ticket is payable for all Replacement Tickets issued.

  • Replacement Tickets can only be issued for performances with reserved seating.
  • No Replacement Ticket will be issued for general admission or 'free seating' performances.
  • Replacement Tickets are issued subject to verification of patron's details against our transaction records.
  • Esplanade reserves the right to not issue a Replacement Ticket if we are not able to verify the claim.
