Theme: “Turning Silver into Gold: Opportunities in Asia”

Asia as a whole is ageing rapidly. A recent Mastercard report dubbed it a "glittering silver market". The SICEX 2008 Conference is aimed at stimulating business interests to harness the economic opportunities of an ageing Asia. The Conference will see a convergence of professionals, business leaders, policy-makers, academia, social sector practitioners and educators from Singapore and beyond, to engage in insightful exchanges on the theme.

Increasingly the baby boomer generation (those born 1947 – 1964) presents a sizable and lucrative market. Financially buoyant with an insatiable appetite for new mid-life challenges, the 45–65 segment is a dynamic consumer with strong spending power.

There is no time like now to tap the silver market in Singapore through a diverse range of lifestyle products and services designed for the mature community. This bustle forms the backdrop of Silver Industry Conference and Exhibition (SICEX) 2008, designed to harness the opportunities in Asia's emerging silver market.

SICEX 2008 will focus on 4 key themes: Healthcare & Wellness, Travel & Leisure, Finance and Technology. The 4 themes will be carried through in both the Conference and Exhibition.

Conference

For the Conference (10-11 January), the event committee has invited several prominent speakers from US, Europe and Asia as well as local government and business leaders to discuss opportunities in Asia's glittering silver market. Guest speakers include Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, Nobel Prize Winner Prof Robert Merton (Harvard Business School), Dr Joseph Coughlin (Founder and Director of MIT Agelab) and Prof Willem van Gelder (Global Director Research of Numico).

Exhibition

The Exhibition will take place from 12-13 January and is open to the public. Key highlights include: a prototype of a "smart home" fitted with elder-friendly technology devices and design, games that serve as social and rehabilitation tools, robots and the latest health and financial products for the seniors market. Working closely with various government agencies, tertiary institutions, trade associations and community clubs, we are planning a marketing campaign to draw 150 local/regional exhibitors, 500 local/international conference delegates and 100,000 visitors over 4 days.
