Monday March 1, 2010 - Thursday March 4, 2010 Orchard Hotel Militaries around the world have realised the effectiveness of utilising unmanned vehicle systems (UVS) in the battlefield. Ongoing military research and development into robotics have finally matured with more military applications of robotics in both national security and the battlefield environment. Robots today are replacing humans in performing the three D’s of military missions: Dull, Dirty and Dangerous, and dramatically reducing costs and casualties of war. As more unmanned systems are being developed and deployed, militaries need firsthand information on new technologies being used, and discuss vital issues that arise from the “Robotic Revolution” in today’s warfare. However, while militaries have witnessed the effectiveness of robotics, there is a need to tread on the development carefully, as terrorists are equally agile in picking up unmanned systems for their damaging activities. While militaries have to guard against terrorists’ adoption of robotics systems, it is equally important for officers to focus on the ethical issues that arise from the use of autonomous weapons. Due to its inability to identify distinctions between combatants and the innocents, it calls for an urgent need for the militaries to recognise the risk of this unmanned systems and the repercussions that may arise with its increasing usage and development. Military Robotics will be discussing the fast-growing industry of unmanned systems. It will bring together military personnel, ranging from technology experts to operators. Participants will be able to get firsthand information on new technologies and discuss vital issues that arise in robot usage. Benefits of AttendingThis 2-day conference will help participants to:
