This 3-day introductory course will provide Enterprise Architecture (EA) staff and engineers a strong foundation for understanding the whole enterprise architecture field at the business, information, application and technology level.

The Defence Enterprise Architecture is a high-level blueprint to guide the Ministry of Defence's transformation. It describes the structural composition of defence business and operations in ways that transcend organisational boundaries – it demonstrates and facilitates the derivative nature of the design and development of business capabilities by linking business needs to business capabilities and by tracing business strategies to systems solutions.

The business and mission-driven objectives of service-oriented architectures depend on the dynamic interaction of collaborative integrated operations in a connected operational environment. The theme of this training is that integrated operations can and should be considered service-oriented nodes in a dynamic information environment. In the defence environments, this dynamic information environment has often been referred to as “the global information grid” or simply “the grid.”

They describe enterprise architecture reference models as a dynamic abstract reference environment for net-centric collaboration between the service-oriented “nodes on the grid.”

This course will cover key definitions, and technical aspects of EA to enable students a good knowledge on how best to plan and strategize EA in a holistic manner. All concepts are explained in practical terms, and avoid deep technical coverage. Using real-life examples and interactive exercises, attendees will gain greater understanding and awareness of both the principles and practical concept, challenges and applications of current and evolving EA. The course is designed to be rigorous where appropriate, while remaining accessible to students without a specific scientific background in this field.
