INDUSTRIAL SCARS J HENRY FAIR

Be mesmerized by the works of acclaimed photographer J. Henry Fair whose Industrial Scars series presents visually seductive, saturated-colour abstractions while documenting some of the planet’s most foul environmental abominations.

Industrial Scars J.Henry FairJ. Henry Fair, a dedicated conservation activist, brings clarity and passion to this series of damaged-earth images. From aloft in a light aircraft, he trains his sharply focused lens on industrial waste sites for an endangered-bird’s-eye view of the toxic leaching fields and containment pools that are by-products of modern technology. The incredible hues are the true colours of heavy metals, dioxins and other chemistry. Tracks of massive machinery mimic brush strokes; rows of huge vats create geometric patterns.

The viewer marvels at their beauty and recoils at learning their true content. And through these responses J. Henry Fair wordlessly, yet eloquently, speaks of the world’s fragility and the ways in which we threaten it.

J. Henry Fair is internationally regarded for his portrait work in the classical music world, having shot creative portraits for musicians like Yo Yo Ma and Isaac Stern. He also does fashion work and has taken pictures for clients like Ralph Lauren, Revlon, Time, Glamour, Matsuda, Interview Magazine among others.

He is also Director and Founder of the Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem, NY, an environmental organisation that houses, protects and propagates wolves and educates the public about this endangered species. He is also involved with numerous organisations that support environmental and social change.
