ICOLACE (International Conference On Learning And Community Enrichment) 2010 has the specific focus of considering how education for sustainable development (ESD) and lifewide learning can be made more relevant and appealing to students so that it becomes a more real part of their future lives beyond school.

ICOLACE 2010 is a meeting point for educators to share research, experiences and ideas regarding involvement by students in sustainable development activities and lifewide learning.

Accordingly, it is intended for educators who are already involved with innovative programs or who are seeking new ideas in the areas of ESD and lifewide learning.

A key outcome from the conference will be the exchange of contact information so that delegates can continue to share ideas and resources into the future.

The conference will be held over a four day period from Monday 26 to Thursday 29 July at Traders Hotel in Singapore.

Essentially the program will be divided into two streams

  1. Delegates who are specifically interested in ESD and/or lifewide learning within a school context;
  2. Delegates who have a wider interest in ESD and/or lifewide learning in the general community.

Registration:

Registration for non teachers is Sing$450 (approx Euro235 or US$320) which includes morning tea and lunch on each day. (Discount of Sing$100 if paid by 31 May 2010.). A special registration fee of Sing$250 (approx Euro130 or US$180) is offered for teachers. Single day registration available for Singapore residents of Sing$85 per day.

The conference program is:

  • 26 July: Registration
  • 27 July: Presentations and workshops relating to existing programs of ESD and/or lifewide learning
  • 28 July: Identifying gaps in effectiveness of ESD and lifewide learning
  • 29 July: Determining how delegates can improve ESD and/or lifewide learning in their respective communities.

The conference is also open to any academics and practitioners who are involved in research or innovative programs designed to promote ESD and/or lifelong and lifewide learning.
