ITS AP 2008 is an annual event has been held in major cities and Singapore is pleased to be hosting the 2008 event. ITS through the use of advanced information and communication technologies, makes the transport system more efficient, safe, and cost-effective, thereby enhancing the productivity and quality of life for people.

As part of the move to provide a smooth and seamless journey for all commuters, Singapore has implemented various ITS applications. The Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) System, Expressway Monitoring and Advisory System (EMAS) and the Green Link Determining (GLIDE) System for dynamic traffic light control are some of the vital components within the island’s transportation network. Commuters can now have easy access to real time traffic information to make better travel decisions. Information collected automatically from various sources such as taxis equipped with GPS and video-based road sensors is processed using innovative algorithms for dissemination onto the Internet, handheld devices and roadside electronic signboards. In 2005, i-transport, a zone-based traffic management system was 9th Intelligent Transport Systems Asia-Pacific Forum & Exhibition 2008 implemented to further integrate existing ITS into a unified, intelligent and interactive platform. The system helps manage roads more efficiently and safer for commuters.

The theme for ITS AP 2008 is 'Connecting U & I'. It signifies the important role that ITS ('I') currently plays in providing seamless connections between travel modes for the users ('U'). Focused on the role of ITS and its impact on everyday commuters, this 2008 forum will include engaging interactive sessions and informative technical visits to discuss and explore the use of advanced technologies, exchange valuable experiences and foster new ideas.

A state-of-the-art exhibition showcasing the latest developments in smart technologies and systems will also complement the forum.
