50 Years of Bossa Nova celebrates the Brazilian music genre that has entertained ears for half a century. After appearing in Rio de Janeiro and London, the tour now spreads its samba-based rhythms to the Esplanade concert hall in Singapore.
Three generations of bossa nova stars will make Singapore swing to the much-loved style of Brazilian music that has seduced the world for 50 years. Singapore is one of just four global cities to host such an all-stars concert to celebrate this anniversary.
The line up includes bossa greats who have composed the genre’s anthems including João Donato, whose piano playing inspired the bossa rhythm; Roberto Menescal, composer of O Barquinho, who performed in the first ever concert billed as ‘bossa nova;’ singer and guitarist Wanda Sá; Marcos Valle, composer of So Nice - Summer Samba, probably the best known bossa song after The Girl from Ipanema; and Vinicius Cantuária whose breakthrough album Sol Na Cara paved the way for the nu bossa movement.
Let the masters of bossa from Rio de Janeiro take you on a journey through the evolution of a genre of music that sang of “the beach, sublime
physical beauty and the unbearable lightness of being Brazilian.”
